Having completed the Intake Assessment and the Intensive Protocol interviews, we visited the BASE participants for a final time and asked general questions about life satisfaction and evaluations of different domains of their life. This so called Final Questionnaire (FQ) was extended at Time 3 and Time 4 to include more items on subjective domain status and aging satisfaction. Questions on subjective change in satisfaction were asked at Time 1 only. At Time 2, Time 5, and Time T7 no Final Questionnaire was given to the participants.
Some of the questions were repeats on items included in the Intake Assessment or the Intensive Protocol. E.g. item no.15 on life satisfaction from the PGCMS was not only used in the Final Questionnaire, but also in the Intake Assessment (z*e12x1r). This was also true for the standard single items about subjective mental health (Intake Assessment: z*e14x1r) and subjective health (Intake Assessment: z*e13x1r), which are commonly used in epidemiological surveys (see e.g. Idler, 1992). At Time 1, three questions were included about percieved change in satisfaction over the last five years (comparable items in the Intake Assessment z*e12lx1, z*e13lx1, z*e14lx1 referred to subjective change over the last 12 months).
At Time 3, Time 4, and Time 6 subjective domain status was asked in eight domains of their lives, for instance memory (Intake Assessment: z*e12n1r), visual and auditory capacity, mobility, social activity (resembling question in Intensive Protocol on satisfaction with social activities: z*e94bx1), everyday routines and financial situation (cf. Campbell, Converse, & Rodgers, 1976).
Subjective well-being was measured by a single item of the PGCMS as at Time 1, and additionally by a five-item short version of the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Pavot & Diener, 1993; extending the information about Aging Satisfaction collected in the Intake Assessment using the PGCMS). Ten items developed in BASE asked about Aging Satisfaction at Time 3 and Time 4 (extending the information about Aging Satisfaction collected in the Intake Assessment using the PGCMS).
Furthermore participants were asked about their future perspective (Intensive Protocol: p*dopt1 and p*dfutor), concerning control beliefs (Intake Assessment: z*e46x1) and everyday mastery (Intake Assessment: z*e48x1).
On all items, answers were given on a five-point Likert-Scale.
